CIMS Implications During Course Registration and Course Conflicts

In the era of modern education and continuous development in electronic systems, the course registration system is indispensable in universities. It helps reduce paperwork, provides easy access to student academic data, and saves this data with absolute accuracy. The system's task is to manage the schedules of thousands of students and academic requirements. However, looking at the other side, the site's downsides have increased recently, such as technical problems due to the pressure the site faces during peak registration and conflicts in offered courses, showing that the site was not designed to handle the pressure. The importance of the site in facilitating the educational process cannot be denied, but in return, light must be shed on the problems the site suffers from and the challenges students face because of it.

Conflicts in offered courses and the limited number of study seats in some subjects is a major problem suffered by many students. When students face a conflict between two courses, consequences may arise, including delays in graduation. Accordingly, the student's academic level may be affected, and their stress levels increase. To elaborate further, a graduating-year student faced a conflict between two courses they must complete to graduate, but was forced to choose only one of them. As a result, they are forced to postpone their plans, and the matter may ultimately have implications for the student's academic path. The consequences of this problem go beyond annoyance and postponement to include effects on their mental health, beginning with the anxiety they experience when faced with unplanned circumstances.

"I sometimes feel that the system tests our patience before it tests our academic achievement" — A fourth-year student

Some technical glitches in the electronic registration system make it difficult for students to complete their online registration, forcing them to attend in person. This in-person attendance can result in a waste of time and effort, particularly when they are faced with strict procedures imposed by administrative authorities.

"It is illogical to have only one section for a course with more than 80 students wishing to register for it." — Maryam Al-Shuraiqiya
"Students are pushed to register for sections they do not want and that do not align with their commitments and study schedules, creating a time gap of up to five hours between lectures." — Huda Al-Hasaniya
"Especially if the student does not have a means of transport, they are forced to wait on campus without productivity, particularly in the absence of a quiet place designated for studying." — Khalid Al-Shukaili
